I'm Lesley Foden from Newbury in Berkshire. I'm 60 next year and I'm going to row around the coastline of Britain.
I'm joining the Rannoch Adventure GB Challenge 2017. It's a row of 1800 miles that will take eight weeks from 3 June - 29 July 2017.
I want to inspire older people to exercise, raise awareness of plastic pollution in the seas and to raise funds for Lifeboats.
This is a long and challenging row in some of the most difficult waters in the world. Very few people have completed it successfully.
It will be a serious test. I have rowed on rivers, but not the sea...
Rannoch GB Challenge 2017
The row is being organised by Rannoch Adventure - an ocean rowing company.
The idea for the challenge came from discussions I had with Rannoch's owner Charlie Pitcher earlier in the year.
The row will be in 8 one-week legs starting in Burnham-on-Crouch on 3 June 2017.
We will be rowing 24 hours a day: 2 hours on, 2 hours off.
We will be using the ocean rowing boat "Liberty". She has three rowing seats and a crew of five.
The crew will change from leg to leg but I am going the whole way.
Lots of personal reasons (see Me) but... I want to:
Inspire older people to exercise - To do something practical to help with the increasing problems in the NHS and social care.
Increase awareness about plastic pollution in the seas - To spread understanding about the severe environmental problems being caused by the dumping of plastic into the seas - in partnership with Sea-Changers.
Support Lifeboats - To raise money for the RNLI.
