I'm Lesley Foden. I'll be 60 when I do the row.

I live near Newbury in Berkshire. I've been married to Mark for over 30 years and have an 18-year-old daughter, Poppy.

I'm an artist, painting mostly still life - Lesley Foden Art. I'm also the chair of a local volunteer driving organisation - EW&H Neighbourcare.

I rowed in my 20's and began again last year. I'm a member of the (wonderful) Abingdon Rowing Club.

Mainly I am a home bod. I like walking dogs, making cakes and arranging flowers. But I do have an intrepid streak: Mark and I cycled the coastline in 1995 and I've been itching to row it ever since.

I want to show that it's possible for people my age to do stuff like this. I want to be as fit as I can be as I get older and try to avoid the health problems that are costing the NHS so much.

I also have a bee in my hat about marine conservation. There is a massive problem with plastic pollution in the oceans - for example ninety percent of seabirds have bits of plastic in their stomachs. There is plastic in our food chain and growing concern that our health will suffer.

Ranting over. I also want an adventure.
